Club Weekly Notes Week end 4th Feb 2018

Gneeveguilla AC 5K Road Race
Race 1 of the Gneeveguilla AC 5K series was held on a cold Saturday morning in Killarney last. The race is run through a 5K loop in the national park and is always a popular race to dust off the winter cobwebs in preparation for the spring & summer goals.
A new member of our club, Aidan Cahill had a solid run when he finished 6th overall in a time of 17:50. 
Also new to our club, Pierette Scroope completed the distance in 24:42. Well done to you both. Race 2 of 4 will be on next Saturday 10th Feb. at 11am. Registration in old monastery across for Killarney playground.

The 27th Annual John Treacy Dungarvan 10mile road race was held on Sunday 4th Feb. Weather conditions were ideal for the 2,750 competitors. Little wind cool and dry. This is a very popular race for all of munsters athletic clubs. Their was five athletes from our club competing. 
Originating from Clonmel Co. Tipperary, it was the gathering of the three O'Keeffe sisters: Maria McCarthy, Grainne Tierney & Siobhan Riordan. 
Maria finished the 10mile (16.1Km) distance in great time of 63min 49sec. She was placed 7th lady overall and 1st in her age category. 
Grainne did a personal best time of 78mins. 
Siobhan, just in training for 2 months finished in a time of 89mins. 
Jane Hewitt also ran well to finish in a time of 80mins. 
Male only, George McCarthy ran a solid race to finish in a time of 58mins 34sec. He was 4th in his age category and placed well up in the top 100. Well done all.

The best of luck to all our athletes competing in the last Athletics Cross Country race of the season. The National Juvenile B, Masters & Intermediate XC in Galway next Sunday.

Kerry Athletics board will be holding their AGM on Monday 12th February at the Rose Hotel Tralee at 8pm. George Maybury will be giving a talk about safety statement. All club members are welcome to attend.

SENIOR AWARDS NIGHT:
The club will be holding their annual awards night for senior athletes on Friday 16th Feb. at 8pm in Sherwoods, Farranfore village. All athletes are invited to attend where we will be honoring our most outstanding athletes for 2017.

Club Training:.
Juvenile Indoor training every Tuesday from 6pm to 6:45pm at Farranfore Community Sports Hall. This is for children born 2010 (7/8yrs) to 2006 (12yrs). €2 per session. New comers always welcome.

Maria's Strength, Endurance & Flexibility Exercise Class every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm in Farranfore Community Hall. €5 per session

Secondary School & Senior training on every Thursday at 6:30pm in GAA grounds Farranfore. This is endurance / distance training. €2 club member, €4 non club member.
