Munster Juvenile B & Intermediate XC Championships 2017

Below are this week's notes. Thank you for your continued support.

Munster Cross Country
The final Munster Cross Country Championship fixture of the season was held in the scenic village of Beaufort on Sunday Dec. 3rd. for the Juvenile 'B' and Intermediates. The day was overcast with intervals of heavy mist. The course was flat and fast with some few patches of surface mud.

Congratulations to all our Juvenile Athletes who participated, it was fantastic to see such a strong turnout from the club. We would have had more only some were victim to illness which is rampant at the moment. We wish them all a quick recovery.

First off was the Girls U9 750m. Rachel Boyle, competing at Munster level for the first time had a good run to be part of the Kerry Team to win team Bronze. Isaac Vickers had a very impressive run to win the U9 Boys race and securing Bronze for Kerry Team.
We had three girls competing in the U11 1000m, 2 lap race. First Home was Mairead Walsh, followed closely behing by Rhian McCarthy and Grainne Costello. Mairead & Rhian made the Kerry County team to secure bronze with Grainne as sub.
Tiernan Lynch did very well in the U11 boys race been part of the Kerry county team to win Gold. Cormac Costello represented our club in the U13 1500m distance and ran well.
Natasha Myers competed in the U15 Girls 2500m race. It was great to see Natasha competing at this level again.
Conall O'Mahony had a great race in U15 Boys. Running with great form and technique, always in control. Conall finished in 4th place to get individual medal and was also part of the Kerry County team who won Gold.
In the Munster Intermediate Women's 5000m race we had six competing. Mary Daly battled hard throughout the race and at one stage was fighting for third position. Unfortunately Mary was unable to hold the fast pace and eventually did exceptionally well to finish in fifth place overall. Mary led the club team to secure silver team and was first finisher for Kerry to secure bronze for county. Caitriona Barry did equally well to be placed 10th with Marie McKenna was behind in 11th. Mary O'Shea was 19th, Grainne Tierney 21st and Pauline Joseph in 26th. Caitriona & Marie were also part of the Kerry team. Fantastic achievement

In the Intermediate Men's 8000m race we had a club team. As in most Men's races the pace from the start was very fast with everyone pushing to find a strong position. George McCarthy had a good start and fought well throughout the race to finish first for the club in 10th place. Not far behind was Arthur Fitzgerald in 17th place, Dermot Dineen in 19th and Brendan Lynch in 33rd place. The club secured team bronze and George was part of the Kerry County team who won gold.
It is a rare occasion to see our club pick up club team medals in both the Men and Women's races. A credit to their dedication in training and to our coach Maria McCarthy. We would also like to give praise to our Club Secretary, Mary Kennedy, who works tirelessly in the background arranging all our entries to the competitions.
