Club Weekly Notes October 2017

Sunday 1st October saw the first race of the Cross Country Championships with the County Novice, U23 & Juvenile Even Ages. 

Thankfully the rain stayed away during the competitions.We would like to congratulate each and everyone of you for a great performance. 
U10 Girls 1000m our three athletes picked up individual medals. Well done to Jessie Lynch was 3rd, Grainne Costello was 4th & Rhian McCarthy 5th. In the 
U10 Boys Tiarnan Lynch was 4th, Isaac Vickers 8th, Evan Donna 17th and Kevin O'Shea 22nd. With there combined positions they got team silver. 
In the U12 Girls 2000m, Eabha McCarthy was 4th & Doireann O'Shea 6th, both winning individual medals. With some great running from team mates Mairead Walsh 14th and Sadhbh Teahan, Niamh O'Shea & Laura Bradley they got team silver. 
Diarmuid Kirwan was our only U12 boy competing. He ran a very good race finishing in 13th place.
Shauna McCarthy continued her domination in her age category when she comfortably won the U14 3000m race. Team mate Ellen Kelliher who was running out of age did very well finishing in 12th place. 
Likewise in the U14 boys race Cian Spillane took podium spot with a very solid run and Malachy Kirwan continues to improve when taking 6th place and individual medal. 
Natasha Myers competed in the U16 3500 race coming in 5th place.
In the Women's Novice 3000m race we had 6 ladies competing. One of the largest entries in some time. Mary Daly, who is new to the club and competing in Cross Country for the first time took a commanding lead after the first lap. Just behind her was team mate Marie McKenna. Mary kept her lead right through the race to win the Novice Title in comfortable fashion. Marie McKenna was second. Grainne Tierney was 5th giving them team Gold. Mary O'Shea was 6th, Bernie O'Mahony 9th and Julie Deane 10th who got Bronze team. Well done to you all. 

In the Novice Men's 6000m we had four competing. With a slow first lap, the pace soon picked up as the lead pack pushed away. Dermot Dineen did well to keep close to the lead group for most of the race and finally finishing in a very good 5th place. Next over the line for our club was Brendan Lynch in 9th place, closely followed by Garvin Cronin in 10th and competing for the very first time was Denis Riordan in 15th place. With there combined places they took team Bronze. Well done to all our competitors and coaches.

Next up on Sunday 8th October: Juvenile Uneven Age, Intermediate and Masters Championships. Venue is Currow. Hosted by An Riocht AC. First race, women's Intermediate and Masters is at 11am sharp. Juvenile races start straight afterwards with U9's. The men's Intermediate & Masters will be the final race of the day. Please be at the venue for 10:30am

Club Gear:
We have a great response to our new range of club gear on offer. You can get fitted with a sample range on Tuesday & Thursday Training. If you cannot make these dates please contact us.

Athletics Ireland are hosting some coach education courses in the Limerick/ Kerry region this September and October. Athletics Leader, Assistant Coach and Level 1 coaching courses are all upcoming fixtures in the Southwest region. The list of courses are available on Athletics Ireland website. On Saturday October 7th – Assistant Coach Course- An Riocht, Castleisland, Co.Kerry. Pre-registration required.

Club Training:
Juvenile Training is on every Tuesday 6pm and Thursdays 6:30pm in Farranfore GAA grounds. Open to all registered juveniles aged 8yrs (Born 2007) and upwards. This will be in preparation for the Cross Country Championships €2 per session.

Maria's Strength, Endurance & Flexibility Exercise Classes every Tuesday starting @ 7pm at the Sports Hall in Farranfore. €5 per class

Secondary School/Junior / Senior training on every Thursday at 6:30pm in GAA grounds Farranfore. This is endurance training for cross country preparation. €2 club member, €4 non club member.

Sunday 22nd October: : Autumn Open Cross Country Festival, Sport Ireland, National Sports Campus.
Sunday 29th Oct.: AAI National Marathon Championships, Dublin
Sunday 12th November : Munster Juvenile Uneven Age & Senior Cross Country Championships, in Tipperary (venue tbc).
Saturday 18th Nov.: British & Irish Masters Cross Country Championships, Derry
Sunday 19th November: Munster Masters & Juvenile Inter-Club Cross Country Championships, Sunday 19th November in Cork (venue tbc).
Sunday 26th Nov.: AAI Senior, Junior & Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships, Abbottstown
Sunday 3rd December: Munster Juvenile "B", Junior & Intermediate Cross Country Championships, in Kerry (venue tbc).
