Club Weekly Notes June 2017


The County Community Games Athletics was held over two days Sat. 24th & Sun. 25th June. This is one of the most popular athletics events on the annual calendar for all juveniles in Kerry. We had many athletes from our club representing their town-land over various events. We would like to congratulate all who competed and represented there area's at a high level. The following club members won gold and will now go froward to represent Kerry in the National Community Games Finals in August. Shauna McCarthy U14 800m, Cian Spillane U14 800m and Liath Lenihan U14 80m Hurdles. 
Other medal winners were: Patrick Kearney 2nd in U14 Javelin, Eabha McCarthy 4th U12 600m, Natasha Myers 3rd U16 1500m & High Jump, Aine O'Shea 2nd U14 Shot,Sarah Palmer 3rd U10 100m,Ellen Kelliher 2nd U12 100m,Mairead Walsh 2nd U10 200m, Leah Foley 2nd U14 Javelin, Doireann O'Shea 3rd U12 Long Jump, Rachel Murphy 4th U14 Shot.
A special thanks to all our coaches who volunteered there services throughout the season to prepare the children for these events.

Round 1 of the National Track & Field League took place on Sunday 25th June in Tullamore. The Kerry had a women's team which was made up of athletes from different clubs in the county. From our club we had Maria McCarthy 1st in 3000m, Leanne Cronin 3rd in Shot and Elaine Norris 2nd Hurdles.
Rossa Foley was a member of the An Riocht AC team to support in the field events.
Round 2 of the league will take place on Sunday 30th July with the final taking place on Sunday 20th August in Tullamore Stadium.

Jim O'Shea took part in the British Masters Athletics Championships over the weekend. He collected gold in the O75 Long Jump and High Jump. A great achievement where the standard of competition in Britain is very high

The Kerry County Juvenile Championships for U9 to U16 age groups have been rescheduled once more due to clashes with other sporting events. They will now take place on Wednesday July 5th at 6pm and Saturday 15th July at 11am . Full list of events post in Kerry Athletics website and on Facebook. Club Training:
Juvenile Training: Outdoors on Tuesday's at 6pm in the Sports Hall, Farranfore. €2 per session.  New members welcome.

Secondary School /Junior / Senior training every Thursday at 6:40pm in GAA Grounds Farranfore. This is endurance training for all levels with emphasis on running form and technique. €2 club member, €4 non club member.
