Club Weekly Notes April 2017

The Kerry Junior, Senior and Master Track and Field Championships were held on Friday 14th April. Kayleigh Cronin won the Senior discus with a fine throw of 48m. Rossa Foley took gold in the Senior  triple jump and javelin. Arthur Fitzgerald was second in the Senior 3000m. The Masters results will follow next week

The Annual Boherbue to Kiskeam 4 mile road race organised by Gneeveguilla AC was held on Monday 17th April. This race always attracts some of Munsters finest athletes and this year was no exception, with the top three finishers breaking twenty minutes for the 4 mile distance. From our club, Dermot Dineen ran well to finish fifteenth overall and 2nd in his category with a finishing time of 23:31. Aidan McCarthy was just behind in a time of 23:42. Natasha Myers was second in the U17 category 31:42.

The Munster Junior & U23 Track & Field Championships was held in Waterford on Sunday 23rd April. Kayleigh Cronin won the U23 Discus with a throw of 45.67m. Rossa Foley came home with an impressive 4 medal haul. He was first in the U23 Triple Jump 11.64m, 1st in the Javelin 38.47m, 3rd in the Shot 8.98m, 3rd in the 35Lb Weight 7.12m and 4th in the Discus 27.61m. Leanne Cronin was 2nd in the Discus 24.83m, 3rd in the Hammer 26.53m, 4th in the 4Kg Shot 7.36m,  

Athletics Ireland are delighted to announce details and open registration for the forthcoming Sprints / Jumps / Hurdles Network day which will be held in Athlone IT on Sunday April 30th. The day will feature keynote presentations and workshops from leading international coaches - Michael Afilaka, Brendan Reilly and Alan Kennedy. Presentations on long-term athlete development (LTSAD), in-season and pre-season planning and components of the sport will be offered alongside practical workshops on sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump and triple jump. Registration is now open on Athletics Ireland website.

Club Training:
Juvenile Training: Outdoors on Tuesday's at 6pm in the Sports Hall, Farranfore. €2 per session.  New members welcome.

Secondary School /Junior / Senior training every Thursday at 6:40pm in GAA Grounds Farranfore. This is endurance training for all levels with emphasis on running form and technique. €2 club member, €4 non club member.

Sat/Sun 17th & 18th June: Munster U/14 to U/19 T&F Championships, Cork IT @ 9.30am.
