Club Weekly Notes April 2017

Below are this week's notes. Thank you for your continued support

The Kingdom Come 10 miler & 5K, hosted by An Riocht Athletics Club was held in Castleisland on Sunday April 9th. In the 10 mile race, George McCarthy was 8th overall and first in his age category. Deirdre Nagle was second lady and Ger Ladden did very well to win his category. Aidan McCarthy was second in the 5K race with Dermot Dineen finishing in fourth place & Natasha Myers finishing second in the U16 category. Well done to all.

The Club awards celebration and recognition night was held in Sherwoods Bar & Restaurant, Farranfore on Friday 7th April. The following members picked up an award for their outstanding achievements in 2015 & 2016. Killian Kerins, Elaina Norris and Leanne Cronin were awarded perpetual trophy for Juveniles.
David Kenny received the Dr. Eamonn O'Sullivan Cup for his achievements in Race Walking. Rossa Foley received the George Walsh trophy for his achievements in throws competition. Sean O'Shea was awarded the New York Trophy for his achievements in Masters Field events. Maria McCarthy received the Breda Brosnan Cup for her achievements in Cross Country Masters. Jerome Foley received the Fitzgerald Cup in Track & Field. Tom Walsh received the Hall Of Fame and was awarded the Nelligan Cup.  The following received special awards. Ladies & Men's Cross Country Teams, Maria McCarthy for winning silver in the World Masters 5000m track race, Michael O'Connor for competing in the European Masters Race Walk, Emma Prendiville for winning individual in the National Race Walk competition and Kayleigh Cronin in winning individual in the National Throws Championships. A special thanks to our club Chairman Jerome Crowley for organizing the whole event.

The Junior, Senior & Masters County Track & Field Championships were held on Friday 14th April. We hope to have full results for next week.

Club Training:
Juvenile Training: Outdoors on Tuesday's at 6pm in the Sports Hall, Farranfore. €2 per session.  New members welcome.

Secondary School /Junior / Senior training every Thursday at 6:40pm in GAA Grounds Farranfore. This is endurance training for all levels with emphasis on running form and technique. €2 club member, €4 non club member.

Sat/Sun 22/23rd April: Munster Junior & U23 Men T&F Championships & Juvenile Combined Events.
Sun 23rd April: Gneeveguilla AC Open Sports Day, Castleisland Track @ 1pm
Sun 30th April: Munster Marathon & Half Marathon Championships, Limerick
